What a visit costs, before you walk in
Consult fees are the same at five hospitals and carry a loading at Fremantle outside ordinary hours. Everything beyond a consult is quoted in writing before it happens, and this page says how that works.

What is included
A written estimate before anything beyond the consult
Surgery, imaging, dentistry and hospitalisation are all quoted in writing, and the quote is what we bill against. Where a finding on the day changes the figure, we telephone before continuing.
Payment on the day
Card, and we take payment when your pet is discharged. Larger procedures ask for a deposit at booking, which is set out in the estimate.
Insurance, and how we handle it
Most policies reimburse you rather than paying us. We provide the itemised invoice and the clinical history the insurer asks for, at no charge, usually within two working days.
Gap-only claims
Two insurers currently allow us to claim at the counter so that you pay the gap alone. Ask when you book, because it changes what you need to bring.
When cost is the deciding factor
Say so. There is very often a staged plan that gets to the same place more slowly, and we would rather build one with you than have you decline the whole thing.

Questions we get asked
Why is the after-hours consult more?
It pays for a vet and two nurses on the floor at Fremantle through the night. Medication, imaging and surgery are the same price at 3am as at 3pm.
Do you offer payment plans?
We work with two third-party providers for larger procedures. Both are credit products with their own terms, and we will hand you the details rather than arrange it for you.
Is the estimate the final figure?
It is the figure we bill against unless something found on the day changes the work, and in that case we call you before continuing.
Which insurer should I choose?
We cannot recommend one. The questions worth asking are the annual limit, whether the excess is per condition or per year, and whether the policy excludes dental and cruciate conditions.
Can I get a quote over the phone?
For routine work, yes. For anything driven by an examination finding, the honest answer is that a quote before the examination would be a guess.
